Sometimes there is no fascinating story behind some random words. Just a very practical decision. Like in the case of this blog’s title.

Originally, my plan was having the main  “Anita Pethő official website”, also creating a blog about history, fiction and more importantly about historical fiction under a subdomain with a very simple name, like History and fiction.

But then imediatelly a big dilemma occured: and what will happen with my writing ideas not related to this topic? What if I would like to write something about those few tv shows set in our time and I’m interested in? It would sound very odd, when I would post something about Succession or Ted Lasso under der blog title History and fiction, doesn’t it? (No, actually it doesn’t. It’s the 21st century, after all. Nothing really matters anymore.)

Then it had to be done: another project focusing rather on the present than the past.

However, I use the word present quite loosely here. It would be more precise to say: my lifetime, which includes exactly two decades also from the 20th century. This might be a significant distinction, when I write something about my never-dying obsession with British humor and comedy, that recently reached a new peak and currently focusing on the 1980s and 1990s.

Actually, I quite like the 21st century

Although I tend to be interested in topics with historical perspectives, and like to approach stuff from historical point of view (which is the basic mechanism of my PelotonTales project), I like the time when I’m living. And it’s important to stress out, that anything I do, I do it categorically from my very 21st-century point of view. I like to look back on past events from my 21st-century life. Moreover, my aswer to that little bit childish question, in which time period I would like to live is always the present. This crazy, chaotic, almost apocalyptic 21st century.

Thus, this it is. The blog with the title:

My 21st century

If you would like to have an advise from the author of this blog, where to start, I would recommend the Words are all I have post. It’s about how I think about creating textes in English currently. And about a bit more other stuff.
